Thomas is a simple, modern, electron-based and cross-platform productivity app that implements the Pomodoro method. The Pomodoro technique was developed towards the end of the 1980s by Francesco Cirillo and it works by breaking down tasks into assigned time intervals (typically 25 minutes in length) separated by short breaks.Īt the core, all timer apps that use this method are the same but they go about it differently, and that’s why I introduce Thomas to you today. Timer apps these days seem to have chosen a favorite technique to help users stay sharp and productive as is evident in apps like Gnome Pomodoro and Take a Break. It allows you to keep track of how much time it takes you to get work done and how often you exceed your deadlines. There's a very nice efficiency chart as well, so it's easy to see how you've done while using the app (there's no 3 or 30 day limit to your historical data).One of the best methods you can implement to be more productive is time management. For someone like me who's checking the news every couple of minutes, it's a big plus. You'll have to restart your session by going into the app (you can customize this so that there's a 30 second leeway or your task is never interrupted). Shift away from the app, and it will pause your task and send you a notification. There's no naming of your current tasks, like there is with Tomato Timer, but Plantie does have an important feature that the first two on this list don't. Maintain a streak and you'll get coins for your effort that can be used to buy additional types of trees.
